Your first visit with Riverview Orthodontics
When you arrive at our Tuscaloosa or Demopolis office, our team will greet you warmly and show you around the office. After this brief tour, we’ll review your dental and medical history, then take some digital photographs of your teeth. Once the necessary images have been obtained, Dr. Upton will perform a careful oral examination.
During this exam, Dr. Upton may ask a few questions about any problems you’ve been having with chewing, swallowing, or opening and closing your mouth. The information we obtain from your history, exam, and photographs will allow Dr. Upton to make an initial diagnosis and recommended course of treatment.
If orthodontic treatment is recommended, additional records including a 3D radiographic scan with an intra-oral digital scan or impressions will be taken to obtain more detailed information and finalize a treatment plan. Dr. Upton will take some time to discuss the orthodontic process with you, and he’ll address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. You can expect him to cover:
- any oral issues you’re experiencing
- if treatment is needed immediately
- what treatment options are available to correct the problem
- if any teeth will need to be removed
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for treatment
- any payment or financing options we have available to you

After your consultation is complete, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to receive your new orthodontic appliance and begin the active phase of your treatment! Depending on your plan, you’ll have follow-up appointments with us every 6-8 weeks or so. At these visits, Dr. Upton will adjust your appliance if necessary and check that your teeth are moving in a safe and healthy way.
These visits are an essential part of your orthodontic treatment, so it’s important that you don’t miss them! We do our best to make sure appointments are scheduled for a day and time that’s convenient for you, but we know life sometimes gets in the way of your plans. If you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for any reason, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible! We’ll be happy to accommodate you by rescheduling your appointment for another day.
